The Essential Eckhart Tolle
A free, honest distillation of Eckhart Tolle's teachings — from a fellow seeker who points you to the master, not past him

You came looking for Eckhart Tolle — and you were right to. He is the rare real thing: one of the few in our time who genuinely woke up. And the surest sign that he is real is this — he never claims he can awaken you. He says, instead, that you already are what you are looking for.
I am not him, and I will not pretend to be. I have not arrived where he has. What I have done is spend years reading him — returning to him in some of the heaviest hours of my life — and gather what I found into a free booklet: his life, the essence of his teaching, the three "gateways" he points to, and a walk through the heart of his three major books.
On its very first pages, the booklet admits it only scratches the surface. That honesty is exactly why you can trust it.
Take the free booklet — and let it point you, as it pointed me, to the man himself.

You came here for Eckhart Tolle — perhaps through "The Power of Now," perhaps through a quieter suspicion that the voice in your head is not, in fact, you.
So let me be honest with you, before you hand me your email.
I have not arrived. Eckhart Tolle, by every honest measure I can apply, has — and the surest sign of it is that he has never once tried to sell me — or anyone else — their own awakening. All he does is point. I am a reader of his; a fellow walker who owes him more than I can easily repay. In some of the darkest stretches of my life his words were the light that dispelled the darkness which almost swallowed me, and I have returned to them, time and again, for a comfort that has never failed to come.
So what I am offering you is not my awakening — nor, for that matter, his. Instead, this is my tribute to Eckhart: a free booklet in which I have tried, as carefully and honestly as I could, to gather the essence of his teaching into one place.
Stillness is the only thing in this world that has no form. But then, it is not really a thing, and it is not of this world. — Eckhart Tolle
Inside, you will find the arc of his life — the unhappy first thirty years, and then the night in 1977 when the self that suffered simply, in his own words, "dissolved." And you will find the heart of what he teaches: that only the present moment is real; that the thinker is not who you are; that the way out of the mind's prison is not to fight it, but to see it. I walk you through the three gateways he offers — the inner body, silence, and the acceptance of this moment exactly as it is — and through the marrow of his three major books (The Power of Now, Stillness Speaks, and A New Earth), by sharing the passages that struck me hardest.
This booklet is not a substitute for his own writing, and I say so plainly inside it. It is a careful map of the territory he has charted for so many decades — enough to show you where to place your own attention, and which of his works to reach for first.

And here is the thing other similar pages — typically, flashier and louder than this one — will never tell you: Tolle himself says the true role of a teacher is not to awaken you; it is only to help you remove what stands between you and the truth that you already are. In this sense, a booklet, such as this one, is a signpost. It cannot be the road. Anyone who promises you that a book — or a man — will "awaken" you is trying to sell you something that neither I, nor Tolle, would ever (even for a moment) entertain selling you.
So, if what you're after is a "guru" who will hand you enlightenment in fifty pages, you are in the wrong place, and I would rather lose you here than mislead you. But if you want an honest, unhurried introduction to the work of a genuinely realised being — made by someone still walking the path he points to — then "The Essential Eckhart Tolle" is exactly for you.

(The booklet is free and asks of you nothing but an email and your attention. I wrote it because Eckhart Tolle's work changed the course of my life — and I would like it to at least touch yours.)
